Hannah writes our crochet guides, from first stitches to home decor projects. She cares about clear explanations, honest yarn advice and projects a true beginner can finish in a weekend.
Hook & Fern is for people who love making things by hand and filling their homes with plants and cozy style. We write the guides we wish we'd had when we started: clear, honest, and doable on a normal budget.
Crochet, houseplants and cozy decor belong together. A crochet pot cover hugs a trailing pothos; a handmade throw softens a corner with a palm beside it. So instead of three separate hobbies, we cover them as one way of making a home.
Beginner crochet guides, stitches, yarn and hook advice, and handmade home decor ideas.
Easy indoor plants and simple care guides: light, watering, pet-safe picks and keeping them alive.
Cozy, boho-inspired decorating with handmade pieces and plants, on a budget.
Six promises we keep in every post, whether it's a stitch tutorial, a care guide or a room idea.
We explain every term the first time it appears, use US crochet terms, and say how long a project actually takes. If a guide only makes sense to people who already know how, we rewrite it.
Some plants are easy, some are fussy, and we say which is which. Care advice is written for normal homes with normal light, not greenhouses.
Every plant we recommend says whether it is safe for cats and dogs, based on the ASPCA toxic and non-toxic plant lists.
We never copy or repost someone else's pattern. When a design inspires an idea, we point you to the designer so they get the visit and the credit.
Our photos come from Pexels under its free license, and each one names its photographer. We don't pass off other people's projects as our own.
Our "what you'll need" lists only include things we think are worth the money, with cheaper swaps wherever they exist. Some links may earn us a small commission, which never changes what we recommend.

One guide from each corner of the site, written for complete beginners.
If something in a guide didn't work for you, or you spot a mistake, tell us and we'll fix it. We also love seeing what you make. Crochet designers who'd like to be featured are welcome to get in touch.
